Floodlit Five

by pgweber

Ex LMS 4-6-0, "Black Five" No 5305 is seen pausing at Sheffield last Saturday on its' return from Buxton to Birmingham with a train of day-trippers.

Sheffield station is very brightly lit nowadays, but perhaps not quite enough to go hand-held. I used f5.6 @ 1s with my K10D + 16-45 at ISO 400 (and Jessops TP323 tripod!).

I also did a little PS tweak to lighten shadows, darken highlights and unsharp mask.

Now what could you do with a K5?

Thank you Gabor, Tom and Nezih for your kind comments.

It was a rare opportunity to shoot a steam locomotive at night, which I enjoyed mainly for the softening effects on the smoke with a long exposure time.

I took several identical shots where the focussing was sometimes not as good as this. However it shows you can get good results with the 16-45 at least down to f5.6.

Peter
