Slogging to Shap

Photo Information
Following my showing of "Going Downhill Fast" yesterday, David Trout asked about the reverse view at Greenholme, of trains climbing to Shap.

This is it, showing DRS loco no. 66428 with a containerised freight going North.

I have previously shown a picture from nearby.

The old shot was taken from a country lane which runs parallel to the line on the right, presenting an upward looking vantage point. The actual spot was near the tall grey post shown in this shot.

This location is more effective for steam (than diesel/electric) photography as it can be spectacular when the driver "opens up".

Nice one Peter. Thanks for showing the location, I'm always on the lookout for different lineside viewpoints to get more variety. I'm sure I recognise this view from the old black and white pictures taken in steam days by the leading photographers of the day.

Thank you Giulio & David.

The afternoon light sets off the scene quite nicely, but in the mornings (when steam is going North) the sun can be right down your lens unless there is a bit of cloud cover.
