Portrait & Retouch practice

Portrait of fibre artist friend using softbox and umbrella (trigger flash kits) but as I had to do it at my friends house in her bedroom is was cramped and didn't really have much time to set up - plus I've not used the softbox/umbrella before - looked fine on the camera screen but the light wasn't balanced - I really need to find out how to use a light meter properly.
