A mess of metal

Meccano, above all, but, also, cricket, Marmite, the double page cut-away representations of a Spitfire or Lancaster or Vulcan in Eagle, Beano, aeromodelling (rubber-powered), William Brown, the Goon Show, Rudge bicycles, the BBC World Service one o'clock news after Lillibulero (?), b&w films in which ladies wore little hats and gloves and men wore suits and ties and hats and carried raincoats over the arm, and coins and stamps and postboxes carried the profiles of GR II and then ER II , What more could youth desire? I wonder how much of the above has meaning for the British youth of today.
But MECCANO... Every school - wherever in the world - should have obligatory sessions of Meccano for girls and boys. All the above has nothing to do with photography except that I was never allowed to even touch my father's Leica and his Summicrons.
You must have been a Meccano fanatic as a lad, its influenced your photography ever since.
