Thanks for the tips, I'll have a look for some tubes. I also have a 70-210 tokina SD II with macro 1:4 so I'll give that a go. This was on a tripod but will look at my angle and composition.

Thanks Will. BTW, the comments were not intended to be a judgement of any sort on this image, they were just intended as general points to consider.
Best wishes

- Shoot the flower at a shallower angle so it is less 'face-on' and focus on the stamens in the centre. This will give depth to the image
- Experiment with apertures - a wide one will heighten the depth of the image, but be careful not to make the area of focus too narrow
- Ditch one or both of the Teleconverter and the x4 lens - they are an extra layer of glass and will rob the image of some sharpness and contrast
- Try extension tubes as a way of getting a close-up - they have no glass and maintain image quality
- Try some post processing, almost all images benefit from levels adjustment and a little sharpening at the very least
- Use a tripod or monopod where possible
- Look for interesting compositions
I hope this makes sense and gives some food for thought. I am by no means an expert but I've learned a lot from others on this website.
