River sailing boat

These boats are typical of the Loire and were used for ferrying goods up and down the river.
They're clinker-built and flat-bottomed and are known as "gabares". All sorts of additions have been done to the topsides as originally they were open boats. They carry one big square sail normally in a "square" rig rather than fore and aft.

Tourists use them now for river trips - worth doing if you're ever in the area!

Thank you all for your kind comments.
I've picked up some interesting comments and info from my topic in Your Photos and some of the photos in the Gallery have shown how important the presentation is.
And of course how pp can enhance a shot.
It's a huge learning curve ......

Beautiful colours love the pink tint in the sky, and the boat is lovely and you didn't chop the top off, (like i have done several times) thank you for the interesting info too, cheers trixie

Thank you both. I didn't do much pp - the sky was pretty much as shown in the shot.
