The Raddon Hills

by morpheus71

Afternoon transient light around the graceful Raddon Hills, in mid-Devon. These are a long ridge of high ground running east to west, with a summit at 235m that looks south over the Creedy vale to Exeter.

The ridge summit is comprised of Cadbury Breccia - from the Permian era. The Permian geologic period extends from 298.9 to 252.17 million years ago. The land here was desert all those aeons ago, a far cry from this current green and pleasant bucolic idyll.

Thanks very much 😊 I think those distant hills are delightful and it was just lovely to see the theatre of light and shade ever changing😏 Hope to get the chance to walk the footpath to Raddon Top summit one day.

Thanks very much Donna 😊 I was enchanted by this valley, the elegant form of the Raddon Ridge and the interplay of light. A quintessential English 'green & pleasant lans'😊

Thanks Giulio 😊 It's a charming bucolic region of Devon for sure. I do hope to return to the area to explore more of the tracks, green lanes and vistas

Many thanks Maria 😊 The landscape of Devon is so varied and it was lovely to see this part in interesting theatrical lighting. It's cast a spell on me for sure to want to go back and walk up to the top of that ridge of hills.

Many thanks for your generous comments David😊 It's like turning the pages of an illustrated storybook set in halcyon days of an English rural idyll of the last century, as one crosses this region. Characterful farmsteads, undulating ripples of hills and vales, patchworks of variant crops, coppices of woodland...

Many thanks Paul 😊 It was delightful to watch the light and shadows interplay between the hills and hollows of this landscape 😊
