Thanks everyone! I've seen pictures of this bird in flight and those highly pronounced black and white stripes exposed in open wingspan are utterly gorgeous...to get a pic of that would be a trophy!

Thanks David, Senn and Andy! I've lived on my property for 18 years and never had a telephoto lens. All you bird photographers here at PUG have inspired me to get one and start shooting the wildlife in my backyard. So thank you all! 😉

And yes, Andy, me and this lens are getting along great and I really am having so much fun with it. I love it for the wildlife! My first attempts at portraits with it has not been as glowing, but perhaps with some practice or else down the line I'll look into a dedicated decent portrait lens.

David (wozhere), I had never heard of a dowdy bird so I looked it up and see that they are mounted porcelain replicas. Is that what you are referring too?
