I must go down to the seas again...

by morpheus71

“I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky; and all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.”

from Sea Fever by John Masefield (1878-1967)

Post-sunset afterglow at Wembury Bay – looking towards the island known as the Mewstone – in the South Hams area of Devon, UK.

The foreshore shows sections of Lower Devonian rocks – mainly red mudstones, now metamorphosed to slate, siltstones and sandstones which experienced Variscan deformation during the Permo-Triassic age.

It is thought that they were originally laid down in mudflats and floodplains associated with lakes. Some fossil fish remains have been found here and there may have been an occasional connection between these lakes and the nearby sea.

Lovely picture, lovely place. It's the site I assigned to my architecture students! You have really captured the quality and colour of evening light in in the south west. The sculptural form of rock and stone comes across really well.

Just fantastic! The light just before sun up and just after sun down really is special and is beautifully captured here.

Beautiful image, wonderful colours and light.

I thought it went: I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky. I left my vest and socks there, I wonder if they're dry? Spike Milligan

Wonderful colour and compo, Phil! I like that poem; but it should be "seas" in the first line, if there's no other version.

Very pretty, surprised about all the work, a good sign I think, just looks like 'golden hour' shot with a filter or 2.
