Looking down a gun

by BAJ

Taken at the ruined Tynemouth Priory, I found the mixture of the Sea defence gun and the grave yard quite an interesting image.

This pic asks all sorts of questions. I've stayed with it quite a while and it puts me in a sombre mood. It speaks to me of mortality and the futility of war. Having a relative just seriously injured in Afganistan makes me somewhat angry at the polititions in their safe abode waremongering against the will of the people of this country. This pic has stirred up all sorts of emotions. As for the actual pic, I wonder if a higher viewpoint over the barrel would give more impact.

Thank you for your comments and I slightly hesitated when I posted the photo as I felt the same as you but you have put it much more articulate then I can. I appreciate the comments regarding the composition and agree however I could not far & high enough without falling off the wall. I have take a side shot which I will post later.

Thanks again Brian

Some photos make you smile, some make you grimmace and some do nothing. Along comes a photograph like yours that really makes you stop and think and enters into your world. I am so so glad you did not hesitate for too long. It is maybe not for everyone but for me, it has stayed with me for a long time and I am grateful for the photograph, even though it has brought me pain. My relative is a very young man and to have his life torn apart at the whim of some B...... who thinks nothing of destroying life for the sheer pleasure of wanting to impose their will on the world. Thanks..
