'All quiet on the Western front'

by PeterKR

Didcot power station seen yesterday from Streatley Hill. Not a puff of smoke in sight (nor a microwatt of energy) now that it has been 'mothballed' for political reasons !

Just seen this Peter, and it has a strange lonely atmosphere, perhaps appropriate considering the mothballing!

I like the bright heat-haze almost shimmering through the distance, and the high sun blue cast.

Many thanks, Nigel.

Having passed by here many many times in the past when the power station was in full use I felt quite saddened by this sight and just HAD to record it !

Out of interest the power station is over 10km away from where I took this shot and the Sigma 18-250mm was at full stretch (250mm). Even so I did an extensive crop to get the image as posted so I'm very pleased with the outcome, and this lens continues to be 'glued' to my K-r !

Best regards
Peter

I like this, although I can't really explain why.

If it hadn't been for the clouds I might have thought crop the sky, but those clouds seem to work and give it another layer.

Like you I find the 18-250mm (Pentax version) very convenient. Often I'll return having lugged around a camera bag with other lenses all day, never to have taken off the 18-250mm.

Bet it would work in black & white too!
