Thank you very much Giulio, Go4IT and David.
Giulio, I tried out lots of different Topaz filters until I found some I thought looked good. I reduced the opacity of each on separate Photoshop layers and rubbed out bits from each layer until I liked the overall effect. I also put a texture that I took of a rusty sign on a new layer, reduced the opacity a lot, and rubbed it out mainly over the vase and flowers.
