Wistman's Wood

Peering through the anthropomorphic limbs of the enchanting Wistman's Wood Dartmoor. Stunted Sessile Oaks, festooned with epiphytic ferns, moss and liverworts. The Wistman is said to have rode through these woods at night looking for lost travellers upon the moors.
This Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest lies in East Dart Valley, in Dartmoor National Park

Remember the swamp in the Flash Gordon film? This is it

Many thanks Peter 😊 Was glad of the company of a couple of friends on this visit in the liminal hour! It's air of wildness is particularly palpable in the late twilight, when alone in that wood... the German word Waldeinsamkeit sums it up well 😊
