Raddon Hill

A brief flicker of transient light illuminates the graceful Raddon Hills, in mid-Devon.
These are a long ridge of high ground running east to west, with a summit at 235m that looks south over the Cready vale to Exeter.
The ridge summit is comprised of Cadbury Breccia - from the Permian era. The Permian geologic period extends from 298.9 to 252.17 million years ago. The land here was desert all those aeons ago, a far cry from this current green and pleasant bucolic idyll.

Thank you very much for your generous comments David. The hills here have definitely struck a chord with me, as did the Cotswolds' wooded chalk hills, 'The Wittenham Clumps' for the landscape painter Paul Nash. There is something about them and the bucolic vales between that is greater than the sum of the parts...
