I don't agree. Unless the camera was on continuous focus the bird could easily have moved after the camera had focused (on half press).

I know what you mean about the keeping still. I always find that using a long lens (300mm) with the subject very close in (as I presume this feller was) and a big aperture lead to a very shallow depth of focus which takes a bit of managing unless (as Darkmunk mentions) continuous focus is used. He looks like a handsome chap though - Maybe you'll try again??? I find that a good way to get birds like this to keep (fairly) still is to bribe them with something tasty

Percy the pheasant just keeps moving about, despite the fact that I have told him he can't be shot in our garden.

He has tapped on the patio door, so perhaps if we let him in to watch Emmerdale, he may just sit still for his portrait.lol

Ah one can only hope.
