Hedgerow Fruits with Pheasant

by Gary Hickin

We were on the way home when this Pheasant decided to cross the road right in front of us, there was no way to avoid it- we heard a thump, looked in the rear view mirror only to see a shower of feathers. We assumed it had been knocked back into the overgrown verge. We got some funny looks whilst driving through our local town, when we got home we discovered the Pheasant firmly jammed into the front grill of the car.........

This is quite common subject matter along with hares, rabbits, various birds, and even deer in traditional still life paintings. We are quite rich in wildlife where we live but I would never think of killing anything on purpose, especially for photographic purposes.

Gary, I understand and respect your views on this subject. While the photo is technically excellent, I find it disturbing personally (and I am not a vegetarian).

Lovely photograph Gary. Good enough to grace Country Life Magazine.

I've had many a fine Sunday lunch courtesy of Goodyear & Dunlop...

Super composition and lighting.

Like an old master's painting.

Well, it's very much to my taste, Gary. Pheasants were introduced into the country as game birds. They are still bred and released for this purpose. Cock pleasants have lovely plumage and make excellent subjects for a still-life (so to speak).

Immaculately composed and lit, as ever, Gary.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Masterpiece!
And what's more, I think that the bird would probably consider it an honour to perish for such a worthy cause.

Indeed, I do wonder if perhaps it deliberately chose YOUR car to attach itself to!
Best Regards, Larry.

A fine comment Larry- I keep telling myself similar things to smooth over the guilt from hitting it in the first place. It was a lot easier when I found a dead one on top of our fruit cage ( on my website) .
