St. Peter's Pastel Landscape

It's a very different effect than I've had using the Pastel filter on the K7, yes it does look rather HDR.

Hi Mike, this isn't a filter effect, it's all done in post processing. In this particular shot I noticed the detail in the far distance towards St. Peter's Square; on the original this is very pronounced, so I processed it to emphasise that detail. It's done with adjustments to levels, then two layers blended together using the 'soft light' blending option. I've then adjusted some of the colours in the image as the reds were too vibrant and the blues were not dark enough.

I like this a lot. It does have a pastel effect and everything looks equally exposed and in sharp focus. Certainly beyond my capabilities.

I doubt I could reproduce the effect, even with your pointers. But it'll help remind me to investigate blending modes sometime. Excellent work.

I quite like it..it's got the look and feel of a jigsaw about it.

I like this sort of effect very much for exactly this sort of scene. It brings out the detail and there is a wonderful sharpness and crispness overall.
