Cannizaro Park Wimbledon, Flower Garden

by McGregNi

Thanks again to all those who gave advice on this series of shots in the 'Your Photos' forum recently. I have redone the images taking into account the feedback, but retaining those aspects I valued from the scenes.

A special place this, on a quiet morning a very hidden gem.

K7 with 14mm Samyang f2.8, shot at f8.0.

This one is my personal favourite from the set. These images have certainly divided opinion and I have to say they are not for me. I can appreciate the compositions, but the processing just doesn't look right to me; it makes the images look 'unreal', almost a cartouche of the actual place and this is something that I can't square in my mind.

Photography has something for everyone though and what I'm saying is not a criticism, it's simply that this style doesn't appeal to me, just as colour popping or black and white doesn't appeal to some photographers.

Thanks David, I have appreciated all the feedback and its all 'gone in' . There are aspects of the shots that I feel happy with, but it may be better, especially with the HDR experiments, to shoot again one day and balance the exposure in camera to avoid those excessive processing effects.

I'm focussing on a more natural look for my next images!

I too think this is my favourite from your set. Whilst I also think the treatment has left them looking rather unreal I assume that's the look you're after.

It's not really me either but tastes vary and tastes change. A year ago I wouldn't have processed so heavily as I do now and I'd have probably hated the HDR stuff I'm now experimenting with.

Out of interest, is this processed through Photomatix? I've been using SNS-HDR Home which is not only cheap but is also capable of reasonably realistic looking results. I imagine Photomatix can do much the same and it's down to the settings you choose.

Its very funny, but this one is the non-hdr ! It is a single frame, but with a separate processing just for the sky (which I ran through Sagelight and applied the Polariser filter to the sky only). The two versions where blended on layers in Photoshop Elements.

I'll look out for SNS-HDR Home and see how it compares to Photomatix. thanks for the tip-off!

This is one I processed via SNS-HDR a few days ago. It's just a quick first attempt. I don't think it particularly shouts HDR and still feels reasonably natural, until you look in detail. If anything it could probably do with a bit more contrast and a bit more punch.
