Hi - one of the reasons I like this sequence because you've got some purple in there. I didn't see any purple, intense greens and some red was what I had. Pretty intense rays there also, and subtle reflections of aurora in the water.

Thanks Paul! 22th and 23rd of January 2012 there was the most intense Northern Lights, even as far south as Trondheim. I believe Northern Lights could be seen in Germany or possibly in Spain these nights. There was a lot of red and purple in the Lights on this occasion. Sadly I was limited by the "less than stellar" high ISO abilities of the Pentax K20D and a 24mm lens, but let us hope there will be more magnificent Northern Lights in 2013. NASA scientists predict that we could expect a solar maximum peak in 2013:
