Another Shot in the Dark

by PeterKR

Taken from our bedroom window at Portmeirion with the K-r on 'P' and resting on the window frame for stability.

Two things have struck me :-
1: the superb High ISO performance of the K-r (1600), and
2: how well the 18-55 kit lens has performed at 18mm fully open !

Excellent in many respects.

A most pleasing shot.

Beautiful night shot, super colours and light and I agree about the lens.

I have to agree with Mac and Nezih about the shot and I fully agree with you about the 18-55 lens, even though I have the 16-50 f2.8 I still use the 18-55 for its lightness and being so compact.

Thanks to you all for you kind comments.

My copy of this kit lens is a real puzzler to me!
It has always peformed well in bright light but in poorer light I have had many occasions when I felt like throwing it in the bin due to soft under-exposed but washed-out images!

I have posted questions about this lens on the Forum and the general concensus was to stop it down to f/8. So when I checked the EXIF data for this shot I couldn't believe what I saw..f/3.5 !

Perhaps my copy performs better at 18mm, since most of the disappointment has come from shots at 55mm or thereabouts ?

I obviously need to do some controlled experiments !

Meanwhile, thanks again
Peter
