Gateway Arch, St. Louis, Missouri

Photo Information
An icon in the U.S., the Gateway Arch is an absolutely elegant structure. It is a catenary (not a parabola) that has a triangular cross-section and an all stainless-steel skin. At 630 feet, it is the highest free-standing arch in the world.

Because it is a catenary, it is really one continuous curve that offers many opportunities for unique photo designs.

This first photo is a look at the arch through some trees for perspective. The little dark rectangles on what looks like the left side are windows at the actual top center of the arch.

This is photo one of three. The following two photos are more abstract in their perspective and composition.

Nice. A catenary is structurally the most efficient way of transmitting forces; it generates naturally the other way up if you suspend a length of string for example. Makes a nice shape too.
