It's a good image Andrew, but also shows the value of a DSLR. The compact can't quite display the detail required and the clouds have burned out a little.

Ah David, taking this little camera to Wales for the week was hard work. You just can't leave it alone to take accurately exposed pictures and post-processing is essential. Where the reputation for "point and shoot" ease of use comes from, I've no idea. But it's always there, strapped to my belt...As they say, the best camera is the one you have with you.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Did you also have the DSLR with you Andrew, or did you 'travel light' with just the compact?

I took the Optio with my new Olympus EPL1 which I intend using when we go abroad. The K10 takes up half the hand luggage on EasyJet. I wanted to see if I could manage without a "proper" camera. I miss a view-finder and don't really like the 4/3 aspect ratio: it's too tall and not wide enough, but the reduced weight was welcome. I was also able to operate the Optio one-handed under an umbrella which would have been impossible with the K10!
I waited to see what mirrorless camera Pentax produced but the Q is just an expensive toy and the K-01 is hideous and too large, although it would have been nice to keep the K mount.
Best wishes,

Andrew

A great shot, Andrew. Makes me wonder what's there down the hill. I think your compact works fine.
