The Finger!

by pauljay

There are so many distractions in this shot and it would be so nice to remove the man in the middle, the bus and even Athens! Nevertheless, the four subjects had to be photographed, whatever the background.
Athens, October 2007.

It's not only the BG working against you here Paul, the lighting also was a problem but with shots like this you have to grab what you can get. You could have shot wide open rather than at f8 which would have helped blur the BG. Sure the bus would still be a white blob but it & the man would be less defined.

When I'm traveling or walking the streets I have my camera set to the SS I need to overcome camera shake & subject movement (say 1/125s to 1/250s) on Tv & on Av I have the aperture set for wide open to blur the BG as much as possible for those shots where I want that. It's just a matter of rotating the mode dial between Tv & Av depending on the subject - not as quick to do on the K-7 because of the dial lock compared with my old *istD.
