AirBus A400M at Farnborough 2010

by GlynM

A newcomer to Farnborough this year is the Airbus A400M. This is competing with the Hercules C130J, also here at Farnborough, for the military transport market.

I liked this shot because I think it shows off the propellers.

Apparently it carries twice the payload of the 130, so it must be pretty big. What would have been nice would have been prop tip vortices, which would have given you an excellent shot.

I don't think there was enough humidity to create vortices. The F-22 Raptor was unable to create vortices unlike its display in 2008, which was a little disapointing. I guess you can't have everything. It was otherwise a very nice day for shooting an air display.

There seemed to be a competition between the A400M and the C130J as to who could achieve the steepest bank. It was said the A400M could do 160 degrees but I think the C130J won as you can see in my shot here .....but perhaps not as the A400M did a loop! See here.
