Marquess in the Mountains
Ex LNER 2-6-0 No 61994 'The Great Marquess' is seen charging through Roman Bridge station nearing the summit before dropping down into Blaneau Ffestiniog last Tuesday. It was on a day-trip from Preston, nearer to which Cliff took his steamy shot of the same train.
The Welsh terrain on this line must be similar to the West Highland line in Scotland, to which David T commmented that this design of engine was so well suited, on his own picture.
I think it is Moel Farlwyd in the background which gives an idea of the hard cycling terrain traversed to reach this point.

I can imagine you on your bike working even harder than the loco on those Welsh hills - I know I've done youth hostelling on a bike right through Snowdonia, many years ago.

This loco was doing quite well in terrain similar to the Highlands for which it was designed.
There was a better view atop a large rock next to two other photters but I didn't fancy climbing up and slipping off in the middle of nowhere.
