Another sample from my torch illuminating night shots in the forest above Heidelberg. This one shows nicely why torch illumination and standard flash usage differ. with the torch I could illuminate very selective - just the tower. With a flash you would have got an ugly shining snow and also the tree in the foreground would have been bright and by this have lost the dramatic look.... A flash foto would also not have result in a 30 seconds shutter speed so the background would have been completely dark and not showing the aurora of the city of Heidelberg.

I like the torch illumination very much, gives it such atmosphere and an interesting background.

Hi John - the required steps where
Walking through a dark forest (2 min - felt 10min)
Mounting tripod and camera: 5 min
The shot itself 30 seconds (actually - the first one was already OK for me so no series of shots required)
Postprocessing was not that much - mainly perspective corrections (took the picture with 18 mm so it was quite distorted) and cropping - nearly no sharpness or color adjustments this time - all together perhaps 5 min.
