I like black stones on foreground that give the idea of BW range of tones in this photo.

IMHO "the large dead area" was welcome to enhance the effect of fantastic fg with stones ..

Interesting composition which you have pulled off to good effect, the not so dead area has plenty of fine detail, sand texture, water sheen/reflection which leads my eye in a zig zag up to the water line. Perceptive shot
