And each time it has been taken off it has had the **** bashed out of it to get it back on!! .... And interestingly, 6187 isn't a black five, but the Scots ended with 6170 so I wonder where that originally came from?
Well spotted David. I've looked closely at a more detailed photo I have of 5000 and the number may in fact say 6167 but has been partly disfigured by some heavy hammer work. That would mean this came from Royal Scot class loco The Hertfordshire Regiment. Components, even as large as boilers were commonly swapped round engines when they went to works like Derby, Crewe, Doncaster etc for major overhauls.
