The Chalk Tower

by davidstorm

Shot with the K-3 and the mighty 12-24 lens, this is the original lighthouse at Flamborough, the 'Chalk Tower', built in the 1600's.

It is an impressive structure but the odd thing is where it is built. It is quite a way inland from the Headland, I'm unsure as to the reason for this.

For me, this is what the 12-24 lens is all about, exaggerating perspectives and rendering the finest of details.

Great exposure and tonal range throughout. in fact I thought it was HDR at first.

It looks like HDR to me. V.V. nice and execution is superb.

A highly dramatic shot, David. You don't seem to use this rather specialist lens much.
Best wishes,

The tower seems to jump out of the picture - very dramatic. I would never have guessed it used to be a lighthouse - looks more like a folly. As you say, the detail is fantastic.

Thanks all, it's not HDR, it's a single shot. The sun was shining gently on the tower which helps the effect, as does the Polariser used.

It's not really a walkaround lens Andrew, but it's great for certain types of shot. I use it a fair bit, but haven't had much opportunity of late to do landscape shots.

I agree with that. I'm loving my 12-24, great lens.
