I do remember such switches in old country-houses till 20 ya...Strange to say but these devices have a new life beginning from 2000. A lot of peoples like to install these old-style switches to make their homes appear"old enough". Funny to visit these houses: new plasma television sets and old switches......What a horrible contrast!!!

Waiting for their breakfast? The one on the right still has a lot of sleepy dust in his right eye!

Thank you, well seen. I must give it another try. Crop and rotate it so that it becomes more emphasized perhaps.

In the fifties and earlier houses had these devices and the pipes used to be installed over the plaster for the cables, Giulio. Thank you!

At that time we were using 5Amp and 15Amp round pin, non fused plugs, made from brown Bakelite I believe. When fitting such plus I remember my father holding his cigarette lighter beneath the rubber insulation, quickly pulling the last half inch between finger and thumb to strip back the insulation - a safety man's nightmare today! Those steel pipes tubes were referred to as Conduit pipes. Our drinking water came through lead pipes.

I was doing the same as your father, Colin. The pipes for the lines were made of tar paper and some kind of aluminum or lead alloy and we had the same lead pipes for drinking water. Those were the days... We were living dangerously, but without all those other chemicals and veggies and food were all natural.
