Northern Lights the Moon and ?

by bjolester

I initially believed that the object on the lower right hand side of the moon could be the Pan-STARRS comet, but I have not been able to identify the object. A friend of mine points out that the Pan-STARRS is much smaller than this object. One would need a 300mm lens, not a 12mm, to get a decent capture of the comet. I am trying to get some help from local astronomers with identifying the object. For now it is an image with Northern Lights, the moon, and :

Wonderful!
I haven't got to see the comet yet. Each time I'm able to get out it goes cloudy!
Getting there! Thanks to you guys

That's fabulous Bjorn. Sadly I'm not a good enough astronomer to answer your question!

Brilliant shot. Great colours - we just don't get skies like that in Sheffield!

Thank you all for your generous comments!

I sent this photo to www.spaceweather.com in my quest to validate that this really is Pan-STARRS, and it was accepted into their gallery. This IS the Pan-STARRS comet

UPDATE: I am withdrawing all my assumptions about a possible Pan-STARRS capture. It is most likely something else I really do not know, and I am getting conflicting feedback from people who have knowledge about astronomy.
