Been there. Done that. Water in the bottom. Duck boards to stand on. Bunk beds to sleep on. An old biscuit tin with candles, matches, AND biscuits.
That's not a very well built example.
It should be deeper in the ground (50/50) and the soil that is dug out should be piled on top of it to give extra protection.

P.S. Some people grew grass on the top and others grew flowers.
Don't ask me where they got the seeds as I was just a kid at the time but I can remember it like it was yesterday.
Although we didn't get it as bad as London and Coventry the Tyne was a prime target because of the ship building.
The nearest I got was a whole street 3 streets away got taken out by a "stick"? of bombs.
It was a long time ago but you tend to remember things that go bump in the night when you're a kid.
It's all history now but photos like this bring back memories. Some good and some bad.
