Huddle

Photo Information
“The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see Nature all ridicule and deformity, and some scarce see Nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, Nature is Imagination itself.”

[William Blake, 1799, from ‘The Letters’]

Transient side-light falling on the Dart valley, momentarily illuminates a huddle of birches below Leigh Tor on an autumn day.

If I could paint, that would be what I would want to create.

I love this.

The silver birch is an amazing tree which will row virtually anywhere, particularly in poor soil. It's one of my favourites with its white bark and delicate form.
Lovely shot with the autumn colours.

Thanks ever so much Mac I enjoyed being at this spot very much, the birches are such characteful trees and in an autumnal setting I felt indulged in the company of such fine woodland

Thank you ever so much for your encouraging comments – birches are one of my favourite trees too, for sure. It was fascinating to see their anthropomorphic form and grouping, I felt like a witness to a conversation of ‘The Ents’ of Middle Earth. That burst of side-light seemed to give a burnished ambience to the quiet dialogue... right place, right season, right time.

To bear witness to such moments, where the beauty of the natural world is illuminated in theatrical light, is a real joy. Trees are such wonderous things
