'No 87'

Photo Information
A full length shot of Welsh Highland Railway's Beyer-Garrett loco No 87, at the end of a return trip from Caernarfon to Porthmadog. This shot confirms that it is painted Midnight Blue (after my earlier confusion thinking it was black!)

Sharp and contrasty shot! On my iPad the image could possibly have benefitted from having slightly less crop on the left hand side and on the top, but maybe this appears different on a larger monitor?

Many thanks for the comments, Giulio and Bjørn.

I appreciate what you say about crops here, but there are not any !
I got as far away as I could to get the complete loco in the frame with the lens at the fully wide end but the narrow platform and obstacles to the left meant this was the best I could do !
'You can't win 'em all', as they say

Thanks again

Non-crop or not, it's a nice portrait and shows that although it's "only" 2ft guage these things are serious machines.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Many thanks, David,

These are not the kind of locos that one normally expects to see on narrow guage railways, certainly not in the Snowdonian hills ?
However, it is a long uphill slog from Porthmadog to Caernarfon and one then appreciates the need for these when you see the number of coaches on the summer schedule trains !

Best regards
Peter
