Correct, David. I don't use flash. I just find natural light, well, more natural!

It does help with some macros, e.g. on this one it would almost freeze the wing movement, but I agree there are serious downsides like making the subject look like a cardboard cutout if you use head-on flash. If lit from both sides though it can look great.

Hi David,

I know there are some upsides to flash. There are downsides too. One of the reasons I stay without a flash is that I have only been taking macros for a year, and still have some way to go to improve. The second advantage of that is that it doesn't cost me any more money!
