One RAW (dng) lightroom 4 beta cropped and processed into 5 seperate images to bring out different aspects of the image then stacked together.
I hate colour photography it sucks...
Balck and white photography is not colour photography without colour. (However with that in mind, my approach to colour photography is) Colour Photgraphy is Black and white Photography with colour...

If colour photography sucks, try B&W without the Photoshoppery. Good B&W is much more difficult to do well, so should present plenty of challenges.
And I do agree about much colour toggery. I am as guilty as anybody of seeking out nice scenery and snapping it without thought.
BTW, applying a logical mind to your two propositions, I would say that either is tenable but not both at the same time.

Art is a subjective entity. People like and enjoy a wide variety of different things this is what makes the world such a vibrant and interesting place. We are all products of our own experience and as ‘artists’ or ‘photographers’ we try to share our experiences with the world… Why take a photograph if not to show someone (even yourself)? But what are you trying to show? The scene? The mood? The feeling? What drove you to press the shutter release? What about the world spoke to you? What about the world are you trying to share back with the world? Not everyone will like everything you do, it would be pretty rubbish if they did as it would not motivate any one to go out and do better next time.
Black and white photography is difficult, I know this, but it is made simpler these days with the progression of digital technologies. Actual Black and white photography; an example of which would be; a Leica M3 and loaded with Ilford FP4+ is insanely difficult when compared to using a Pentax K5. (As long as you shoot in RAW you can get away with so many cockups I have tried and tested many means of over exposing and under exposing in an attempt to ‘get it wrong’ but have always been able to recover a decent image quality). However, doing the same in what I affectionately call ‘real photography’ is much much harder. In the transition between Click to print there is much more to ‘control’ , from chemical temperature in processing your film, constant agitation of the developing barrel (those damn bubbles)to what kind of paper you would use, my personal favourite being AGFA triple weight fibre based grade 3. Then what finishing technique you would use. Selenium toning being my favourite as it depends on the intensity of the blacks so it enriches the image in line with the contrast range (hence grade 3 and not 2). There is so much to think about before you even press the shutter release.
Why does colour photography suck? In my opinion, because it is commonly accepted in a badly executed way. People point and click, and they see the results and that’s what they are used to. Too many times I see horrendous examples of poor exposure control. An example of which would be reflecting light of a glass building and not compensating resulting in a dark image with a huge white splodge in the centre of the image where the sun reflects. The human eye can detect detail in most all light conditions. From the whitest whites to the darkest darks the human eye can detect every shade of grey thus; if there is detail you can see it, and so can your camera. And I know this because using ANY camera you can make an image with tones varying from black to white. Therefore (in my opinion) there should be detail EVERYWHERE in the image. I used to struggle with this myself. Not the idea, but the execution... The Zone System was very hard for me to understand in my early days of photography. But thankfully I studied under John Blakemore at Derby University and he managed to club it into my head eventually and I was very happy. It was hard to migrate it to digital. But it does work.
Black and white photography is not colour photography without colour. When capturing an image, I try to think and see in black and white. What area to which Zone, detail detail detail, where is light where is dark, what can I see? I process my images as if they are black and white. I process for tones, shades and DETAIL. This is why ‘my’ colour photography is black and white photography with colour (not in colour).
I hope this helps your cognitive dissonance with my photographic philosophy.
