Verve

Photo Information
"The sun stands still for no one, constantly changing shadows, lighting and the general atmosphere... You have little time to meditate and contemplate your subject... you must quickly decide your course of action, and with verve and emotion, capture the essence of your subject."

Sidney Hermel

Golden hour evening sunlight, in early spring, bathes the hills above Merrivale and Walkhampton Common below. Snow dusts some of the higher ground in the distance.

Leedon Tor, Ingra Tor. King’s Tor, Pew Tor, Heckwood Tor and Vixen Tor can be seen in the near distance.

Cox Tor, Staple Tor, Great Mis Tor and Little Mis Tor lie in the far distance.

A beautiful image as always, wonderful stones in the foreground and added warmth from the golden light.

Thank you very much for the generous comments from Maria, Blaze, Mary, Giulio, Puma and Stridey - the 18-55 kit lens is a fantastic piece of engineering

I could see the opportunity for the light as I drove up to the moors and having made this photograph (I could see the clouds bundling together out west) hand-held I did quickly set up the tripod to try another exposure, but despite the foreground being still lit, the mid and distant ground had lost their golden tinges - such is the rapidity at times of transient light and how glad i was that the first exposure was a keeper!

Thanks very much Jim The light was certainly worth photographing in such bitterly cold and windy conditions!

Thanks very much Jim The 50mph winds and -11 degree wind-chill were rewarded for sure

The prize is a hefty voucher towards one of the gallery's photography courses, very generous of them and I shallvery much look forward to doing a course with them soon
