Blue Point

Photo Information

I took this image when Mr. Brian came to Italy. That morning he was obliged to come back to the hotel in Pienza (see Tuscan scape in PUG). So I came back to this bridge. Not a beautiful day but in the earlier afternoon a little bit of light gave a special mood to this scenery. I took similar pictures many years ago (see Home Sweet Home in this Gallery and PPG) but this time I was luckier. That blu lorry perfectly matched to the dye of sky. 1/10th had been the right choice to “pan”the blue point, IMHO. Camera on tripod. Manual exposure and manual focusing. Just a little bit of retouches here and there in editing…but I was not satisfied of weak colours!.....So I had a go using Color-Lab on a different layer. It worked: I set blending mode to soft-light and opacity at 15%. Place: Italy, Tuscany, San Quirico d’Orcia.

Blue is indeed glorious here and complements the yellows. The highway bisects the scene at just the right spot to give the illusion of supporting the hillock with its stand of dark trees. This is a work of art. Like.

Very dramatic Giulio and as per the comment by go4IT it is a 'work of art'.

I can't decide though whether or not it would be better without the blue lorry or not although I agree with you that the shade of blue goes well with that of the sky.

Giulio - you've nailed it with this one, definitely a 'work of art'. For me, the lorry really adds an extra dimension to the image.

Thank you All for comments. I'm not still sure about cropping. I deleted the bottom side (it had no meaning, IMHO: almost a hair-less head....soil with a few grass here and there...). There are several different frame chances. 1) two pillars following rule of thirds+highway+all background+just a little bit of foreground. (In other words this version). 2) Highway+a little bit of upper part of two pillars+all background. (perhaps the best solution, IMHO). 3) The whole frame with no cropping.....Rotten tomatoes welcome!!!! Giulio...Go there again a take a better picture!!!!!!

2: could be right but at first glance I had impression that this version was "root-less". Pillars arise from "nothing" as soil is missing.....but soil is poor...meaningless. PS Very difficul to perform other captures when soil is rich of wheat or corn. Farmers don't allow peoples to walk on their plants. RIGHT!

Great lighting on the hillside behind the road; and the blurring of the vehicle adds to it IMO

Yeah this one really gets my eye. The location is really interesting, the composition is great as usual. I agree that it was not the best day, but you did a great job at making the photo grab my attention.
