Emmanuel Head

Photo Information
The old shipping beacon on Emmanuel Head on the far side of Holy Island (otherwise known as Lindisfarne). Just before sunset. Got battered for an hour or so as a big autumn storm came through, then as it cleared, took this.

A marvellous shot. Well worth getting battered for.
Best wishes,

Andrew

What are you doing taking pictures when a storm is moving through??? You should be catching that swell!!! I like this picture, it's very good. Can I ask do you regularly use filters in you photos or do you apply them in post production? The long exposure of the sky with the beach hut is excellent.

Good point well made, Ralphpiano. Did have my board with me, too, but left it in the van. Tend to find that good surfing weather (storm coming or going) also happens to be good photography weather, and increasingly it's the photography that wins. Plus it's the North Sea and I'm a bit of a southern softie these days...

Re filters, I always try to do as much in the camera at the time as I can. The light was pretty exceptional this particular evening, so I don't think I had to do very much. Just a Lee nd 2 stop soft grad for the sky I think, and possibly a 3 stop nd filter to slow the shutter down enough to catch some movement in the grass... In post I pushed the exposure of the whole image about half a stop, which I then took off the sky again with a half stop digital grad, boosted the blacks a tad, but that's about it...

Best
