I like the shot

I used my K10D and Sigma 70-300mm apo dg version at Cheshire falconry earlier in the year.

This shot has the look of the drop in sharpness these lenses seem to show at 300mm with the widest apeture (I could be wrong) I found that by using the lens at under 200mm and as close to f11 as possible given the available light(f11 being the sweet spot) my results really improved - hope this helps.

I find a shot at f11 150mm cropped will be far better than at 300mm and f5.6 every time

That said - given the focal length and apeture this shot is very good - I love the detail in the eye.
K10D, K5 plus plenty of clueless enthusiasm.

very strong portrait - just that the feathers look a bit unreal - did you soften them. The soft style of the feathers in contrast to the hard contrasst, makes the whole picture looking a bit like a painting - if this was your intension, then it really works

Great shot...... I think Stuey may be right about the lens. My son has this lens too and it's great at shorter focal lengths but seems to get a bit soft at 300mm, especially when compared with my DA L 55-300mm. Anyway this doesn't detract from the picture or your skill in taking it as it is very good.
