The Waverley at Whernside

by pgweber

Ex LMS 4-6-0 No 46115 "Scots Guardsman" is seen here accelerating away from the Ribblehead viaduct towards Blea Moor on the Settle-Carlisle railway line. It was taken last Sunday from a footpath next to the line.

On Sundays in July/August this train, named "The Waverley" runs from York to Carlisle and back for day-trippers. The title was once carried by an express from London-Edinburgh which passed over this route.

The Three Peaks are nearby, one of which, Whernside is just out of shot to the right.

Not seen Scots Guardsman yet but I`m off work now for four weeks so I may just make an effort to get up there one day.

Lovely atmospheric shot Peter with plenty smoke as Cliff says. Every time I've set out to see Scots Guardsman it's been replaced by another loco, usually 45305, not complaining but it would be nice to get a shot.
