Great Staple Tor and Beyond

by morpheus71

Gazing out towards the galactic plane of the Milky Way from Great Staple Tor, Dartmoor National Park, Devon, UK

This was made as a 'demo' during a 1-to-1 workshop earlier this week (whilst he was busy recording star trails).

Clear skies, warm air atop the high moors & superbly mezmerising valley fogs below - my client and I could not have wished for better skies.

The gentle sidelight was from a waning gibbous moon, just risen over the moorland plateau to the east.

Stitched panorama from 4 overlapping (consecutive) frames

Pentax K3 (Mark 1)
Manfrotto X Pro-B tripod and ball head
Sigma 10-20m lens (at 10mm) - manual focus ~ infinity
f/4.0
ISO 3200
Exposure length for each frame = 30 seconds (to avoid star trails)

An absolute corker of a demo well worth the work involved.
Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Many thanks for your kind and enthusiastic comments David I find it humbling gazing out to the stars from places such as this, the rocks themselves steeped in deep time... Whilst looking out at even older parts of the cosmos
