Old Boat

by davidstorm

This is Grasmere, as seen from the 'Grasmere Faeryland' cafe.

The image has had more work in Photoshop than most of mine do, to enhance the dreamy atmosphere I've applied a diffuse glow then removed this from certain areas of the image to bring the details back. A few other tricks have then been applied using layers of differing colour and saturation to end up with the final image.

K-5, DA 16-45

This one denfinitely needs a 'large' view.

Entices me to get that fishing rod out again!
Has your Doctoring given the boat a white outline?

Hi Colin, the boat already had a white outline! It was this outline that made me think of using a diffused glow effect as I thought it would make this 'shine' and stand out.

David,
Yet the bow near vertical edge does not have that line. When viewed large the white edge looks over cooked, almost fluorescing.
I suggest that you ask the boot owner to paint the boat edges the same as the rest of the boat or just ask him/her to move it out of sight, or temporarily sink it, then you take the shot again! Perhaps you could over-paint the white edges black using Photoshop. For me the white edge emphasis spoils the shot.

Colin

Hi Colin, the white edge was some sort of plastic covering I think that ran around the boat. I'm sorry you think it spoils the shot, but I like it this way and it was there when I took the shot. I don't generally remove things that were in the original image as I like to show what was there. Recently, someone commented on a picture taken in Haddon Halll, an old Medieval Manor House, where there was a light switch in view. I left it in because it was part of the scene I photographed and that sits comfortably with me. We all have our own ways of doing things and that's why our pictures end up looking so different!

Thanks for your comments, it's great to get constructive feedback as this is how we all learn.

Lovely shot, although I feel it could do with a slight turn to the right.

Hi Russ, it is actually level, the illusion is caused by the shoreline on the left which is not on the horizon, so some of it is closer to the camera than other bits.

Well taken shot, David. I like the composition, the nice muted colours and great reflection.
