Garsdale Giant

by pgweber

The Settle to Carlisle railway attracts many special trains during the Summer months. On Sundays from 25th July to 5th September, 'The Waverley' runs from York & Leeds to Carlisle

The first of these was hauled by Ex LMS 2-8-0 No. 48151. This was a freight engine and was more accustomed to pulling slow and heavy freight trains.

It is seen charging towards Garsdale station again near the North Yorkshire/Cumbria border (this time on the wrong side!) to gain momentum for the climb over Ais Gill, with its' 13 coach load.

Shot as a PEF with K10D/16-45, then edited in PS(4!) to lighten shadows and darken highlights.

Remarkable sharpness. Nature-like view.

Thank you, Senn.

As well as darkening and lightening the image, I applied the unsharp-mask too.

There is not really a landscape component in this view, but I thought the locomotive was a captivating sight alone.
