Thanks for the nice comments. It was hand held. I usually find that even at 300mm, I can hand hold it pretty well down to about a 50th of a second - and sometimes less than a 20th (Yah! for shake reduction...).

I believe the plant is called Joe Pieweed (we now have some in our own garden) and the bees love it (as do butterflies - but you can see that...).

I didn't do much to the pic in Aperture, although I did darken the purple, red and yellow a bit because I didn't want to lower the exposure any further, but I do find that the K20 and the Sigma 70-300 do respond really well to vibrant images
