Flying Scotsman leaving York

by pgweber

On 10th May 2016, Flying Scotsman departs York with a return trip along the 'racing stretch' of the East Coast Main Line (ECML) to Newcastle.

I managed to overtake her on a service train and be in Newcastle in time to see her crossing the Tyne.

That's impressive Peter, a good clear view. I bet you were penned in by crowds of other photographers at this point
Where did your train overtake the Scotsman? Was it Ferryhill?

Thanks David. It was elbows everywhere. Next time I'll take a piece of chalk and draw some staggered diagonals on the floor for the photters to line up on so that we all get a clear view. Yes, she was looped at Ferryhill/Tursdale junction.
I left York about 20 mins later allowing time to photograph the arrival of an electric hauled special on a GBRailfreight staff jolly to the NRM.
