Playing with lightning: an experiment

Playing with lightning: an experiment

Photo Information
Last night I got the opportunity to try and capture a storm lit up by lightning. It's the first time I have tried it. Apologies for the lack of sharpness, but the combination of ISO 1600 and 10 seconds hand-held are bound to have consequences! It also needs only one big flash in the cloud, or two far apart ideally, as here; it acts like a flashgun, lighting it very briefly and so reducing movement blur. After a few tries, +5 ev seemed to be the right setting as far as exposure goes.
This is the picture that makes me realise I have to get a K5!

I imagine the weather radar was displaying some red patches? Amazing result considering the circumstances.

Where is God's eye looking at us common peoples? Strange subject BUT there is something inside this photo that attracts me

Yes, lots of red on the radar, we deviated 50 nm off track to avoid them!

Thanks for the comments. Hopefully I will perfect this technique with practice (and a K5?). I also think my 50mm f1.4 might be more suited to the task.
