GWR Small Prarie Tank Engine 5553

by bwlchmawr

5553 crests the Wasford bank just before the steam is shut off and the train coasts into the station.

Steam trains have something special, but I like them. Earlier photo "Lyd" was like a painting.

That looks like a steep gradient and the engine is working hard. Good athmospheric shot of a Great Western branchline,is it the West Somerset Railway Andrew?

David, Engines have to work very hard to lift their trains from sea level at Blue Anchor to Washford on the West Somerset Railway, only to have to drop down again to Watchet! I love the sound they make, particularly on wet lines in the morning! A few years ago an 8F pulled an eighteen coach train up the line which, I think, is a preservation record. But I like low season when loadings are modest enough to allow smaller tank engines to work.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Love this shot Andrew with the steam and those leading lines.
I'd like to see that bright area on the top left toned down a bit - or clone some more steam into it?
