All I can say that as a small boy watching the trains at Newcastle Central Station I can remember seeing A4s and A3s and the new A1s in blue and thinking how good they looked. I was gutted when I saw the first A4 in dark green and thought it looked drab. Brunswick green was fine for Great Western engines with their polished brass and copper but not for the LNER and even less for the ex-LMS Duchesses.
