Leaping salmon, River Wear

Not my usual thing this but I was wandering the banks of the River Wear at Durham recently and saw lots of salmon attempting to leap up weirs in the river to reach spawning grounds upstream. Not being a natural history photographer my longest lens is the DA* 200mm but I had it on the K3 so was able to crop in much closer in PS.
Like the salmon which had to make several attempts to complete the leap successfully, I had to shoot a lot of frames to get a half decent picture.
An angling friend tells me this might be a sea trout rather than a salmon.
What would I know about trout and salmon.

Terrific! Have occasionally been near a place where salmon do this - but never managed to capture anything really! Well done

Super pic. Can you remember roughly how far from the subject you were? I am trying to decide on a long lens.
